Hot on the heels of the last newsletter, a note just to let you know about

Another grass fed, Angus cross beast which was born and reared at Garr House Farm will have been hanging for 3 weeks when it comes back on Wed March 2nd.
Orders in by 6pm this Sunday please.

The usual Mini Beef Boxes will be available.
A selection of joints, steaks, mince and casserole meat individually priced at £50 for £45.
Alternatively, spend over £50 on the beef and get a 10% discount.
Sausages and burgers ( including gluten free, need to be ordered ) - the flavours available are plain, onion and black pepper, horseradish or sweet chilli.

Orders can be delivered for free locally, collected from the shop at Garr House Farm or taken to Colchester Farmers' Market at St Marys Arts Centre on Friday 4th March for you to collect between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm. We are hoping for around a dozen stalls to attend this month and would love to see you there to browse the locally produced goods and crafts or to stop for tea and cake.


Phil dusted the cheque book down when the opportunity arose to purchase a mini digger to replace 'Mary'. This is the old lady with whom he spent many a summer evening when the kids were younger, essentially avoiding bath and bed time but also apparently 'making progress'. They have dug many a ditch and footing together, but Mary's reaction times aren't what they used to be and the joints a bit loose with age, plus the open air cab limits her use in colder weather as the temperature of the operator plummets. Her replacement mini digger feels a bit like progressing from mobile phone brick to slimline phone with high spec camera.


After some initial introductions, bypassing the instruction manual of course,  and practice sessions round the back of some buildings, Phil was brave enough to face public scrutiny and do a roadside ditch. We now have very smart ditches along which rainwater can flow and not a daffodil was harmed in the process.

We had fun attempting a photo shoot with the puppies this afternoon. Hopefully there will be some good ones to share in the future but for those needing a puppy fix now; here is Bertie making a bid for freedom, the pups first taste of the outdoor life, Steve surveying the drinks cabinet and alfresco dining.




Please remember there is no Open day on Good Friday this year but watch this space for farm tour dates in the second week of the Easter Holidays.

OK, now for the excuses;



Poppy, the Fox red Labrador had 13 live puppies on January 12th. All are thriving, looking at the world, staggering about and we have started the messy business of solids, and the not so solid productions from the other end. I think I may stay indoors until Spring - so there really should be a proper newsletter to follow shortly. Meanwhile, please let me know if you would like some of the fresh beef.
